Outbuddies Is a Refreshing Co-op Metroidvania – Review in 3 Minutes

Outbuddies is a deep-sea adventure singlehandedly developed by Julian Laufer and published by Headup Games. This Metroidvania indie game draws heavily from classic titles to create a gaming experience thatā€™s both nostalgic yet innovative. You play as maritime archaeologist Nikolay Bernstein, who awakens within the sunken city of Bahlam after seemingly being knocked unconscious. Heā€™s greeted by a Buddy unit, a small flying robot that tags along as a co-op companion throughout his subaquatic journey.

The game offers a fresh take on a classic formula by seamlessly incorporating a co-op gameplay element into what is otherwise a solid indie game with a heavy dose of nostalgia. If you enjoy games like Axiom Verge, then this game should be right up your alley. Outbuddies is available on PC for $17.99 and will be released for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch in 2020.
