Palia Is A Simulation Fantasy MMO With An Evolving Narrative

Palia is an ambitious third person MMO with an evolving narrative set in a unique, sprawling fantasy world. This community simulation adventure will be the debut title from developer Singularity 6 when it eventually releases. If you’re at all interested in its large-scale Animal Crossing premise and announcement trailer (below), you should be happy to know that a Palia pre-alpha test is coming later this summer. You can register for the test via the game’s website.

Singularity 6 says that Palia will set itself apart from the competition in a number of ways. For example, it seems giving each player a unique high fantasy life to live is one of the game’s primary offerings. Palia lets you decide how you fit into its world, promising to give everyone in its living community a second home where social interactivity plays a key role in day-to-day life. You can create a character to your liking with a variety of options that will continue to be expanded upon, and you can decorate your home with more than 1,000 customization items to make sure it feels as welcoming and cozy as you please.

Past the level of freedom it’s said to offer, Palia residents will be able to enjoy various activities, such as fishing, cooking, and hunting. Then there are Neighborhoods, which serve as Palia’s version of MMO guilds, allowing players to establish friendships with surrounding players. Neighborhoods can partake in team activities to earn rewards as well. You’ll also have the freedom to join a neighborhood or start your own from scratch, giving you the option to build your own fantasy community.

As fun as Palia’s fairytale multiplayer experience sounds, Singularity 6 says that it’s just as fun to play by yourself, as the game features its own set of evolving NPC characters and stories that will unravel as you play. Adding to its ambitions is the promise that the game’s evolving narrative will “take years to fully unveil.” You can see a quick summary of Palia’s story below:

In Palia, humans are the legendary race, having disappeared thousands of years ago at the height of their grandeur and mastery of magic. Nobody in modern times knows why. Players awaken as human characters without explanation in a quaint, lakeside village where they’ll make their home and forge a new future for themselves and humanity.

Singularity 6 is a Los Angeles-based studio filled with industry veterans from companies like Blizzard Entertainment, Epic Games, and Sony. Its founders, Anthony Leung and Aidan Karabaich, hail from Riot Games, where they served as development director and lead game designer respectively.

Palia has no release window or platforms quite yet, but you can stay tuned for more updates regarding the game’s pre-alpha test plans.
