Peninsula, Train to Busan Sequel, Lands Its Second Action-Filled Trailer

This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

The awkwardly titled Train to Busan Presents: Peninsula has just received a second trailer, and it is almost entirely full of action and, of course, zombies. The sequel comes from the same director as the original, Yeon Sang-ho, but features a cast of new characters, including Jeong-seok (Gang Dong-won), who is sent on a retrieval mission but becomes trapped in Korea (a peninsula), which was abandoned after the outbreak seen in Train to Busan.

Judging from this trailer, it looks like this will be the Aliens to Train to Busan‘s Alien. The first film was a tightly-knit zombie thriller that took place in an enclosed space and focused on character and theme. This second movie looks like an all-out action-fest with massive amounts of zombies, explosions, and car chases. The characters also seem a bit more cliche, but one of the things the first film did well was taking tropes and delivering nuance with them. Hopefully, Yeon can pull off the transition, as going bigger does not always mean getting better.

The movie was set to premiere at Cannes this year but the festival was canceled, so now it is a selection of the virtual Cannes event. With theaters reopened in Korea, the movie should release there sometime in July. Its global release dates are still up in the air as cinemas reopen slowly around the world and distribution rights in countries are held by different companies.
