Applications are now being taken for the Penny Arcade Scholarship for 2008-2009, offering major loot to one lucky industry hopeful.

The scholarship, established in 2007, is a $10,000 grant to one qualifying student who is seeking a career in the videogame industry. To apply for the scholarship, students must provide a two-page essay describing their studies and intentions for the game industry, along with two letters of recommendation and a copy of current academic transcripts.

Students wishing to apply must meet the following prerequisites:

  • Must be enrolled in a program as a full-time student at an accredited college or university in the United States during the 2008-2009 academic year. (High school students are not eligible.)
  • Must intend to enter the game industry “in some capacity.”
  • Must have a minimum 3.3 GPA on a 4.0 scale.

Students majoring in any field can apply for the award, but each award is for one year only; winners may not reapply for subsequent scholarship awards. In addition, each application will be evaluated based on a student’s service, leadership, character, financial need and “skillz.”
