A classic JRPG will get the silver screen treatment in 2013.
If you’re a big Persona fan, you may already know that Japanese production house Aniplex has a film adaptation of Persona 3 planned, with a tantalizing trailer to boot. So far, information about the film has crept in at a petty pace, and Persona 3‘s release window is the latest juicy tidbit. The adaptation will release in Japan sometime in 2013, with no North American release on the horizon just yet.
The film’s official website revealed the release window on New Year’s Day, simply stating: “Persona 3 The Movie #1, in theaters 2013.” The movie will be out sometime before the end of the year (probably later rather than sooner), but the site also reveals that it will see a theatrical release, at least in its native Japan. Furthermore, the “#1” indicates that it will take multiple films to retell the entire Persona 3 story, but further films will likely depend upon the success of the first.
Fans in Europe and the Americas needn’t despair just yet. Even though there’s no official word about bringing the project West, just about every entry of the Persona series has made its way to Western audiences in one form or another. In other words, there’s probably no reason to summon a demon from the depths of your psyche and wreak havoc at your local high school – for the time being, anyway.
