PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is Getting First-Person-Only Servers In the July Update

This article is over 7 years old and may contain outdated information

The much-requested addition of first-person-only servers to PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is coming sooner than you might think.

After PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds developer Brendan Greene told players in the game’s official Discord server that dedicated first-person servers were coming, but wouldn’t be coming soon, no one expected to hear more about the idea for a while. Greene wrote, “Dedicated first-person servers will take some time as it requires a lot of work from all teams, [it’s] not as easy as just flipping a switch. Our game, platform, engineering, and gameplay teams all need to do work to make it happen, and they are all quite busy with optimisation work at the moment!”

But something has apparently changed, as Greene announced on Twitter yesterday that first-person-only servers are coming, and they will roll out with the game’s July update.

This change has been requested by many who say it will make the game more “hardcore” by removing the ability to use third-person perspective to get a better angle to see around obstacles and the like.

When the update goes live, it will not roll out to all regions or game modes. As the new feature is still a work-in-progress, it will be rolled out in stages to allow time for polish. When the July update hits, first-person-only servers will be available in Solo and Duo queues in North American and European servers only.

The July update will also include the oft-requested FOV slider for the game. There’s no exact date as to when it will go live, but previous updates have been near the end of the month.
