No, that headline isn’t a bizarre stutter; An Arkansas woman, already two and a half weeks pregnant with a baby girl, has become pregnant with a baby boy.
No doubt trying desperately to sound like they weren’t shocked, doctors interviewed by MSNBC explain that this is an uncommon occurrence known as “superfetation” in which a pregnant woman’s body still manages to release an egg which is then … well, just ask your mom where babies come from.
Most fascinating is the almost logical fact that the two babies have separate due dates, one at the end of 2009, and one in early 2010. Being a male of the species I’m sure I don’t quite grasp the subtle complexities of having two children come rampaging out of one’s body only weeks apart, but I bet it stings.
Like, a lot.
