Originally slated to launch in Spring, the game is now expected to launch much later in the year, in Fall. Romero shared the news on Twitter, but provided no specific reason for the delay, citing only a desire to ensure quality.

Empire of Sin was announced during Nintendo’s E3 press conference last year. The game casts players as a mobster in 1920s Chicago seeking to build a criminal empire. While diplomacy and accumulation of illicit business are being touted as the main avenues to success, the game will also include a robust turn-based combat system.

Yahtzee Croshaw had the chance to go hands-on with an early build of the project last year, reporting that it has “an incredibly complex set of systems, including hired goon relationship mechanics, and a story emphasis.”

Although Empire of Sin will be Romero Games’s first full-fledged release, Creative Director Brenda Romero has been in the industry for decades, including credits on Ghost Recon and Dungeons & Dragons games.

Empire of Sin will launch late in 2020 on PC, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One. The delay comes in the wake of publisher Paradox Interactive’s latest fiscal report, which referred to the publisher’s 2020 lineup as “the biggest and most ambitious games in our history to date.”
