What used to cost $399 is now free for all the world to use.
Google search and modular phones aside? We’ve all messed around with the ad giant’s Google Earth tool before, but now the best version of the world-exploring software is up for grabs at the low, low cost of zero dollars.
Google Earth Pro, which up until recently cost $399 per year per license, has dropped the pricetag altogether. Free keys are now available through the Google Maps and Earth Enterprise website. Once you sign up (email address required), a key should pop into your inbox almost instantaneously.
Existing users who already have a key will continue using that license — no renewal required.
Along with all the goofing off/procrastinating you normally do in Google Earth, the Pro version adds a few layers of functionality. You can “…measure 3D buildings, print high-resolution images for presentations or reports, and record HD movies of your virtual flights around the world.” So anyone who needs a quick and cheap way to get a city skyline image? Go nuts!
…or if you need to make a compelling video to show why your neighbors backyard is the perfect spot for a new Shake Shack franchise, Google Earth Pro can probably help you do that.
