Redesigned PlayStation Store Goes Live in North America

The delayed PS Store revamp has finally made its way to North America with a new front page and improved search functionality.

Sony’s PlayStation Store redesign, only the second in the PS3’s history, has gone live in North America. The revamp was originally due out on October 23, but due to some issues with its European launch, it was delayed for PS3 owners in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Brazil. Now that it’s live, North American gamers can see the shiny new front page, redesigned search function, and other changes that have been implemented to make it easier for you to buy stuff on your PS3.

Besides the aesthetic differences, the biggest changes to the store are the ways to look for games, movies, and other forms of entertainment. The search function has ditched the on-screen keyboard for a tumbling text input, with results that show up immediately on the right side of a screen and shrink down as you enter more letters. Related content, like DLC, trailers, and themes, is easily accessible from each game’s “parent page.” The Games page, which can be found upon loading up the store, is made up of categories like “Day 1 Digital” and “PlayStation Plus,” to name a few, as well as separating the PS3, Vita, and PSP content into their own categories.

A full summary of the new features can be found on the PlayStation Blog. I just browsed the redesigned store on my PS3, and the new search function was very responsive and easy to use, definitely an improvement over the old keyboard format. For those of you who do a lot of PlayStation Store shopping, this should make it even easier to spend those digital dollars.
