The Obi-Wan Kenobi Disney+ series has been put on hold according to a new report from Collider. They say that “two independent sources with knowledge of the situation” explained that the Star Wars show’s crew has been sent home, with the show now delayed “indefinitely.”
The report says that Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy expressed dissatisfaction with the Obi-Wan Kenobi show’s scripts. The sources say that the hope is for the crew to return come summer 2020 after the scripts have been revamped, though time frames can always shift. The decision to take a step back to improve scripts seems to come from Kennedy’s desire to maintain quality control following recent Star Wars backlash.
Rumors that the show had been canceled started popping up last week, though a later report stated that these rumors were “totally inaccurate.” The show is definitely not dead, but it seems the show is at least in a bit of a slump.
The Deborah Chow-directed Disney+ show had yet to receive a premiere window up until this point. Rumors also stated that the show could see the inclusion of a young Luke Skywalker, though today’s development may render that moot.
So far, Disney+ has been a massive success, with the platform’s other Star Wars show, The Mandalorian, drawing huge audiences and positive ratings from critics. The Mandalorian, however, has already been slated to return with a season 2 this fall.
Update: The Hollywood Reporter‘s sources state the series has been reconfigured from six episodes to four, and before the halt, “the show was even screen-testing actors opposite (Ewan) McGregor.”
