Reports: Kingdom Hearts to Receive Disney+ TV Series

A number of reports have surfaced backing up the existence of an exclusive Disney+ Kingdom Hearts TV series. Rumors that Disney was cooking up a show based on the Final Fantasy / Disney video game series first cropped up earlier in May at We Got This Covered. Now, The Cinema Spot’s Emre Kaya, MCU Cosmic’s Jeremy Conrad, and DisInsider’s Skyler Shuler are saying that a Kingdom Hearts Disney+ show is indeed on the way.

Each corroborating insider sounded off on Twitter yesterday, with Kaya adding that Square Enix was asked to create a pilot for the series with Unreal Engine after Disney’s efforts “didn’t work out.” Additionally, it sounds like the show will likely be CG, with Disney currently casting for the project.

There is a #KingdomHearts series in the works at Disney+.

Conrad, who indirectly corroborated that the Kingdom Hearts TV show exists by simply saying, “Yes, it’s true,” was later backed up by Shuler. Shuler agrees that the show will be CG, adding that Disney voice actors like Jim Cummings, Bill Farmer, and Tony Anselmo are expected to reprise their various roles.

All other information is still up in the air. Until Square Enix or Disney is willing to talk about Kingdom Hearts on Disney+, it’s best to take all of this information with a grain of salt.

The latest entry in the series was Kingdom Hearts III last year. The long-awaited third entry in the crossover video game franchise also received add-on content in the form of its Re:Mind DLC. Its director, Tetsuya Nomura, also directed the massively successful Final Fantasy VII Remake.
