Rockstar Breaks Guiness World Record

This article is over 16 years old and may contain outdated information

Rockstar’s hit title has smashed yet another record.

Guinness World Records confirmed that Grand Theft Auto IV grossed the most day-one sales proceeds ever.

The game garnered $310 million and sold 3.6 million units in 24 hours. That shatters the old record of Halo 3, which generated $170 million, as well as that of the fastest-selling movie, Spider-man 3 ($60 million) and even the fastest-selling book, Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows at $220 million.

The company’s latest effort had already bested sales records in Europe specifically and for individual consoles, and also attracted the usual round of condemnation from Jack Thompson.
