According to a LinkedIn post, a new AAA open-world VR game is in development for Rockstar Games. The game will be developed by Sydney-based studio Video Games Deluxe, the team behind the recent L.A. Noire: The VR Case Files.

As described in the Video Games Deluxe post, the team is currently gearing up for the project. “Having finished the critically well received L.A. Noire: The V.R. Case Files we are now gearing up for a new project, a AAA open world title in VR for Rockstar,” the post reads. “2020 marks our 7th year of working exclusively for Rockstar in Sydney and we are excited to taking on this ground breaking project.”

Little else is known about the game, but Video Games Deluxe is currently hiring for the project, seeking senior programmers, an animator, an engine programmer, and a designer to work on it. It’s important to note that Rockstar hasn’t publicly announced a VR project, though the post by Video Games Deluxe seems credible given its history with the publisher.

There is speculation this could be a next-generation VR game for PlayStation 5. Considering L.A. Noire: The VR Case Files came to PSVR, there is a precedent, but it’s still too early to tell. Some are hoping this is a VR version of Red Dead Redemption 2, while others want to believe it will tie into Grand Theft Auto VI somehow.
