This time, the archetypical everyman voice actor gets to step out of the recording booth and into the action.
The Saints Row series has always put a lot of thought into character customization. This extends to a selection of possible personalities for your main character, each with its own voice actor. One of the new voices you can choose for your protagonist in Saints Row IV, however, may sound familiar – very familiar. Nolan North, video game voice actor extraordinaire, will be one possible set of pipes for Saints Row IV‘s over the top president. But if you think he’ll just be a standard wacky protagonist, you’re in for a surprise: Nolan North is playing none other than Nolan North.
The last Saints Row title had seven options for the main character’s voice – three male and three female voices which followed roughly the same script, and a humorous seventh voice (the zombie) that was notably… distinct. This time around it seems the formula is still the same, but North fills the unique seventh slot by actually acting as himself – voice actor turned president turned super-powered savior of humanity. It’s more subtle than the laughably unintelligible grunts of the zombie voice from the third game, but expect more than a few doses of self-referential humor towards North and his extensive voice acting career.
North is probably best known as the voice of Uncharted‘s Nathan Drake, but he also voices main characters in Assassin’s Creed, Deadpool, and roughly a third of the games in existence.
