Sasha Calle Supergirl DC Films The Flash

Sasha Calle Will Play Supergirl in the Upcoming The Flash & Other DC Universe Films

Big casting news coming out for the DC Extended Universe (still a thing) today as Warner Bros. announced that Sasha Calle has been cast as Supergirl in the DC Universe film series. The actress, best known for being on The Young and the Restless, will first appear in the upcomingĀ The FlashĀ opposite Ezra Miller and directed by Andy Muschietti, who was instrumental in casting her from more than 425 actresses who auditioned over Zoom. She’ll join Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton in the film as well. This is the first time that Supergirl will be Latina.

Deadline reports that both Muschietti and DC Films President Walter Hamada were blown away with the actress for having both the toughness and vulnerability they wanted from the character. She also did chemistry reads with The Flash‘s Ezra Miller, hinting that her role in the upcoming film is a bit more than just a cameo looking to set up the character or a quick clip like we saw in Batman v Superman.

ā€œI saw more than four hundred auditions,ā€ said Muschietti of the casting. ā€œThe US, Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Colombia. The talent pool was truly amazing and it was very hard to make a decision, but we finally found an actress who was destined to play this role.ā€ Sasha Calle herself was brought to tears at the news, as you can see above in the video of her getting the part of Supergirl.

This should mean a multitude of appearances for the actress as DC rebuilds its cinematic universe from the ashes starting with The Flash‘s dive into the multiverse and time travel. Plans for a Supergirl film had been announced back in 2018, but movement on it had stopped as WB got its footing back with its superhero films. Most likely Calle will be headlining a Supergirl film sometime in the future, especially now as there isn’t one on TV anymore,Ā  as DC starts building its universe back out.
