Chris Evans stars in Joon-ho Bong’s adaptation of the post-apocalyptic French graphic novel Le Transperceneige.
The first US trailer for director Joon-ho Bong’s post-apocalyptic science fiction film Snowpiercer has arrived. The Snowpiercer is a large train that is home to the only survivors of a man-made apocalypse. The film stars Chris Evans with Ed Harris, Jamie Bell, Alison Pill, John Hurt, Tilda Swinton and Octavia Spencer. Snowpiercer was released in South Korea last August, and was featured at the 2014 Berlin Film Festival. The film will arrive in US theaters starting June 27, after its US debut on June 11 at the Los Angeles Film Festival.
Snowpiercer is based on the French graphic novel Le Transperceneige by Jean-Marc Rochette. The science fiction story takes place on a post-apocalyptic Earth where an experiment to halt global warming causes a devastating ice age. Nearly all life on Earth is destroyed, with a pocket of humanity surviving on a massive train powered by a perpetual motion machine. A class system develops, dividing the elites at the front of the train from the poor inhabiting its tail. Chris Evans plays Curtis Everett, who leads the tail’s rebellion.
Snowpiercer may be one of Evan’s last films outside of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The actor has announced that once his contract with Marvel ends, he will be leaving acting to focus on directing. Evans’ contract with Marvel is for six films, and Evans expects those films will be complete by 2017. Evans has already directed one film, 1:30 Train, which is due to release this year. He also stars as the Narrator of A Many Splintered Thing, also due out in 2014.
