Station.com, Sony Online Entertainment’s portal to games including Everquest, Star Wars Galaxies and DC Universe Online, has been taken offline.
It’s not clear at this point what exactly is going on but visitors to Sony’s Station.com are currently being greeted with a rather ominous-sounding message. “We have had to take the SOE service down temporarily,” it says. “In the course of our investigation into the intrusion into our systems we have discovered an issue that warrants enough concern for us to take the service down effective immediately. We will provide an update later today (Monday).”
What makes this a little more noteworthy than the usual “down for routine maintenance” message is, obviously, Sony’s ongoing issues with the PlayStation Network, which has been offline for nearly two weeks. Whether there’s actually a connection between the two outages beyond stumbling over one problem while investigating another isn’t yet known but it’s certainly not an unreasonable assumption.
Alas, Sony’s “While you wait…” offer to check out a Free Realms trailer or listen to the latest SOE Podcast don’t actually offer much of value while we wait because, well, Station.com is down. We’ll keep you posted!
