Interstellar fans in four cities will be able to tour the Endurance ship in virtual reality.
If you have any interest in Chris Nolan’s upcoming Interstellar, AND you have any sort of interest in the modern wave of virtual reality hardware, now you can kill two birds with one stone.
Leading up to the sci-fi film’s release, residents of select U.S. cities will be able to tour the wormholin’ spaceship Endurance from Interstellar in Oculus-powered virtual reality. The installations will be set up ahead of the film’s release, while the Smithsonian in Washington D.C. will have a long-running exhibit, post-release.
Interested parties will be able to check out the Endurance VR tour in NYC (October 6 – 8), Houston, Texas (October 17 – 19), and Los Angeles (October 25 – 27). The Smithsonian installation will run from November 5 – December 6.
It’s not clear what Oculus hardware will be running at the demos, but my guess is Development Kit 2 (DK2). The demo should also give us a clear idea of what the inside of Endurance looks like, as most of the Interstellar trailers have only shown off the outside of galactic explorer.
