Spector Delves into Underworld Ascendant and System Shock 3

This article is over 5 years old and may contain outdated information

Escapist Magazine editor-in-chief Russ Pitts recently interviewed Warren Spector (Deus Ex, Ultima Underworld) about his work on OtherSide Entertainment’s new game Underworld Ascendant. The interview took place in Sinespace, the virtual reality social space that’s the VR equivalent of Second Life, alongside New World Notes’ Wagner James Au, Sinespace developer Adam Frisby, and Underworld Ascendant designer Will Teixeira. Unfortunately many people missed out on the best parts of the interview — even if you were watching it streamed, you weren’t necessarily getting the full Sinespace experience. But now we have a beautifully produced version of the interview from Down Right Epic for you to enjoy. If you love Spector’s games and want to learn more about Underworld Ascendant, dive in.

In addition to illuminating Underworld Ascendant‘s connections to Ultima Underworld and talking about his career in game making, Spector also looks back on his classic Escapist feature Gaming at the Margins, he waxes philosophical about the problems with working in high-end graphics, and divulges details on OtherSide Entertainment’s System Shock 3.

Underworld Ascendant just received a major update and is available for 20 percent off on Steam until Jan. 3.
