Spider-Man: No Way Home Trailer Brings Back a Major Franchise Villain

WhileĀ Loki may have been the kick-off to Marvel’s multiverse adventures, the first big-screen action we’ll see that’s really going to mess with everything is Spider-Man: No Way Home, and as the new trailer shows, Spidey and Dr. Strange are definitely going to mess things up.

The film sees Tom Holland and Benedict Cumberbatch along with a slew of others reprise their roles, and it finds Spider-Man and Peter Parker ostracized as J. Jonah Jameson, recast as a blowhard “news” anchor, outs his secret identity and frames him for the murder of Mysterio. So what does any teenage boy do? He decides to try to get all the bad stuff in his life erased as he asks Dr. Strange to cast a spell that makes no one know he’s Spidey. Just why Strange agrees to this is unclear as it seems a bit out of character, but we’ll have to see.

The Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer also drops a few surprises if you haven’t been paying attention to the casting news. While no other past Spider-Man actors show up, we do get a look at both a Green Goblin pumpkin bomb and Doctor Octopus himself, once again played by Alfred Molina, who seems to know this version of Peter Parker or maybe is speaking to another one.

While we haven’t yet seenĀ Shang-Chi orĀ Eternals, this really does look like the first Phase 4 film that will directly connect to the previous movies and start tying it all together — or, to be more accurate, unravel the entire universe.

Spider-Man: No Way Home will release on December 17, 2021.
