State of Play Returns This Thursday with PS4 and PS5 Game Updates

Sony announced that it is hosting a new State of Play broadcast this Thursday, Feb. 25, at 2 p.m. PST / 5 p.m. EST. The show will last around 30 minutes with deep dives into 10 games coming to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, including announcements of new games and updates on several third-party and indie titles that were shown in last June’s PS5 showcase.

Sid Shuman, senior director of SIE Content Communications, clarified that there will not be any information about PlayStation hardware or business-focused aspects. This means we won’t be getting any additional information about the new PlayStation 5 VR hardware that was just announced today or any update about potential studio acquisitions. This week’s State of Play will focus squarely on upcoming games.

Last June, Sony revealed new exclusive games such as Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Returnal, and Horizon Forbidden West, which are all slated for a 2021 release. While the first two already have solidified release dates, Horizon Forbidden West does not, so hopefully we will receive more information about a possible launch date there.

As for third-party and indie titles, Resident Evil Village, Pragmata, Project Athia, Ghostwire Tokyo, and Kena: Bridge of Spirits were all shown during June’s showcase. It’s likely that we’ll learn more information about those last two titles as they’re launching this year but haven’t confirmed a specific date yet. Resident Evil Village is already set to release in May, while both Pragmata and Project Athia won’t launch until after 2021.
