Stranger Things Season 4 Confirmed, and We’re Not in Hawkins Anymore

The cultural phenomenon (It brought back New Coke!) that is Stranger Things will indeed carry on as Netflix has confirmed a fourth season in the ’80s-tastic series.

The series, so far, has had a tight plot that’s focused on the community of Hawkins. However, with an obvious reference to The Wizard of Oz, it seems the story may either be expanding out of the small town adventure genre or taking a deep dive into the Upside Down itself. Both are definitely great options for switching up the formula of the series a bit. It fits into the conclusion of season 3, which we’ll leave nebulous here for spoiler reasons, but wherever the show goes, it’s going to be heading towards its ending as the Duffer Brothers have said they envision only four or five seasons.

The end of the show, however, will not signal the end of the Duffer Brothers at Netflix. The pair has signed a deal to continue producing content for Netflix in the form of both TV shows and movies. THR reports that the deal is in the nine-figure range and looks to keep two of Netflix’s most successful creators in-house as the streaming wars start heating up. Everyone is pretty excited about it as these press release quotes show.

ā€œThe Duffer Brothers have captivated viewers around the world with Stranger Things and weā€™re thrilled to expand our relationship with them to bring their vivid imaginations to other film and series projects our members will love,ā€ said Ted Sarandos, Chief Content Officer, Netflix. ā€œWe canā€™t wait to see what The Duffer Brothers have in store when they step outside the world of The Upside Down.ā€

“We are absolutely thrilled to continue our relationship with Netflix. Ted Sarandos, Cindy Holland, Brian Wright, and Matt Thunell took a huge chance on us and our show — and forever changed our lives,” said the Duffer Brothers. “From our first pitch meeting to the release of Stranger Things 3, the entire team at Netflix has been nothing short of sensational, providing us with the kind of support, guidance, and creative freedom we always dreamed about. We canā€™t wait to tell many more stories together — beginning, of course, with a return trip to Hawkins!”
