The 3DS version of Super Smash Bros. will launch on October 3, 2014.
Last we heard, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS had had their release dates segregated – the 3DS version was coming earlier in summer, and the Wii U version later in winter. Now, we have a definite release date for the 3DS version, and it looks like someone at Nintendo needs a lesson on when “summer” is. The 3DS version of the game will launch worldwide on October 3, 2014.
The Wii U version still doesn’t have a definite release date, as Nintendo simply stated it would arrive during the “holiday” season this year. Nintendo also revealed two new playable characters for the two games, Kid Icarus‘ Palutena and the Mii.
It seems odd to say that the 3DS version was coming in summer and then delay it to fall, as that October release date puts it in pretty close proximity with the Wii U’s “holiday” release date – something I thought they were trying to avoid in the first place.
I’m just bummed I won’t get to play this one over summer break!
