Superman & Lois, The CW’s Superman series focusing on family life, has landed a season 2 faster than a speeding bullet. The Arrowverse show just premiered last week, but it performed so well across broadcast and streaming that the channel moved to renew it promptly. It seems people really want to watch Clark Kent struggle with raising kids.
The 90-minute premiere episode truly did explode out of the gate. The show gave CW its best primetime rating in two years as viewers tuned in to see Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch reprise their roles from Supergirl, but this time as the main characters. The series then exploded on streaming, giving CW its biggest day-one streaming numbers in the history of the channel for a new series. According to Nielsen, the show just continued to succeed as the week progressed, ramping up viewership by 93%. It’s a massive hit, hence a Superman & Lois season 2.
āThe phenomenal multiplatform debut ofĀ Superman & Lois, which delivered for us in a big way on both a linear and streaming basis, is a testament to the creativity, hard work, and dedication of the talented people who worked tirelessly in front of and behind the camera, especially in this challenging environment,ā said The CW Network Chairman and CEO Mark Pedowitz. āWe are thrilled to now have two brand-new bonafide hits in SupermanĀ andĀ Walker, both of which have been renewed for next season along with 11 other of our shows, further positioning us for continued strength and stability for next season.ā
Elsewhere in the Arrowverse,Ā StargirlĀ has yet to be renewed for a new season, though that may just be because the show’s most recent season hasn’t come out yet. Even if it doesn’t get renewed, the fantastic success ofĀ Superman & Lois means CW probably isn’t going to be backing away from more Arrowverse shows. It’s also not the only Superman action going on right now, as WB recently announced that a new, possibly Black Superman movie is in the works from screenwriter Ta-Nehisi Coates.
