The Escapist Expands Video Offerings

Durham, NC – May 8, 2008 – The Escapist, the 2008 Webby Award winner for best games-related website, is excited to announce the addition of the new video series “Unforgotten Realms,” the voraciously funny animated series parodying tabletop gaming, and “Drawn by Pain,” the dramatic battle of one woman fighting for salvation, to its growing collection of video and award-winning editorial content.

“Drawn by Pain” is the Webby Award-winning, mixed live-action/animated series that chronicles the life of a young woman battling the demons both in her mind and in the real world, using her intense anime-styled powers. Envisioned as a full-length feature film, “Drawn by Pain” will be serialized in 12 episodes each Monday, including exclusive behind-the-scenes commentary by series creator Jesse Cowell, at The Escapist, beginning May 19, 2008.

The animated series “Unforgotten Realms” presents a humorous take on the epic tale of two friends discovering the world of tabletop role-playing. Originally introduced as charming low-quality Flash movies, the series is being reworked into polished animated shorts that will be loosely based on previous episodes, but will feature new adventures, characters and storylines. The Escapist will debut the first episode on Thursday, May 15, 2008 and will present new episodes every other Thursday.

The Escapist is always on the lookout for fresh perspectives in editorial and video content relating to games and related culture. “We’re proud to continue our award-winning pursuit of quality in videogame related content by presenting these two unique series,” says Russ Pitts, Acquisitions and Production Manager for The Escapist. “Whether in our written content, our artistic direction or now, with our video series, our first and last criterion is quality, and these two new series live up to that reputation.”
