The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard with Ryan Reynolds Lands Second Trailer

Ryan Reynolds. Samuel L. Jackson. Salma Hayek. Decent action. That basically seems to be the general pitch for The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard, the sequel toĀ The Hitman’sĀ Bodyguard. The first film rode the charm of its two stars to surprising success, and that seems to be the plan for the sequel as well as the new The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard trailer shows.

Salma Hayek made a cameo in the first film, but as the trailer indicates, she is clearly playing a larger part in The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard as she and Ryan Reynolds go on a quest to rescue Samuel L. Jackson. It appears that the success of the first film has given this one a somewhat bigger budget to play around with, along with some more star power as Antonio Banderas and Morgan Freeman join the cast.

The film takes place four years after the first movie and finds bodyguard Michael Bryce (Reynolds) on a forced sabbatical from bodyguarding when he’s sucked back into the world of Darius Kincaid (Jackson) by his wife, Sonia (Hayek). It appears that once again Kincaid and she are in danger and they need his reluctant help as the villain, played by Banderas, tries to launch a cyberattack against all of Europe.

The original movie was a pretty basic action flick but was pulled off well enough, and judging from this trailer and the return of director Patrick Hughes, that looks like what we’ll be getting here. Given the past year’s nearly total lack of big action films, that isn’t exactly a bad thing. The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard will help kick off what Hollywood hopes is a summer movie season that will usher fans back into theaters when it lands on June 16.

There will be plenty more chances to see Ryan Reynolds doing acting this year. Thanks to COVID-19 delays he has a slew of films landing this year with both the video game-inspired Free Guy and Netflix’sĀ Red Notice, starring Dwayne Johnson and Gal Gadot.
