The Hunt Is On In These Intense New Images From The Revenant

This article is over 8 years old and may contain outdated information

Gritty, yet luminous. Gruesome, yet alluring. These new stills from The Revenant are a thing to behold.

While most of the world is waiting on baited breath for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, there’s another December release that could not have film fanatics more anxious with anticipation. I’m talking, of course, about Alejandro Inarritu’s The Revenant.

We’ve already sung the (perhaps premature) praises of Inarritu’s follow-up to Birdman here at The Escapist — what with its beautiful imagery and stomach-churning violence already captivating/disgusting audiences — but these newly-released stills from the film have somehow hyped us up even more.

Suffice it to say, The Revenant cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki will likely be looking at an unprecedented third straight Oscar win at this year’s Academy Awards, thanks in no doubt to director Inarritu’s insistence that the film be shot in all natural elements. So what if it ballooned the budget to some $40 million more than it was originally greenlit for? You can’t put a price on integrity, people!!

Starring Leonardo Dicaprio and Tom Hardy, The Revenant hits theaters on December 25th.
