No plans for story DLC are in the works for Naughty Dog’s latest blockbuster release, The Last of Us Part II. Director Neil Druckmann confirmed such in a recent podcast with Kinda Funny. We have embedded the video at the relevant time mark below.
A question was asked about whether or not there would be a story-based DLC similar to 2013’s The Last of Us: Left Behind for Part II. Druckmann clarified, “The Last of Us, I think we had some Season Pass or something that ahead of time we had some story DLC. There’s no plan for story DLC (for Part 2).”
Additionally, Kinda Funny’s Greg Miller followed up by asking about the possibilities for multiplayer, as the first game had the “Factions” multiplayer component to it. Miller tried to press Druckmann for an answer, assuming that there had to be someone at Naughty Dog working on some sort of multiplayer mode for The Last of Us Part II. However, Druckmann wouldn’t budge and only performed a cheeky “my lips are sealed” motion across his face, implying that something likely is in development.
In September 2019, co-director Anthony Newman said that a multiplayer game mode was planned for The Last of Us Part II, but the scope of the game grew so much that it had to be cut from the final product in the end. However, a separate statement from Naughty Dog at that time echoed that multiplayer could see the light of day in some form, perhaps as a standalone experience.
