The Manhattan Project Comes to Life in WGN America Drama

This article is over 10 years old and may contain outdated information

Manhattan brings us the drama behind the battlefield.

WGN America has been pushing to become a television powerhouse with their first original, scripted dramas showing up this year – first with Salem and now with Manhattan, which premieres on the network July 27th at 9/8c. This period drama takes viewers back to 1943 in Los Alamos, New Mexico, where American scientists are hard at work on the atomic bomb. While watching the science behind the battlefield might seem dull, the show’s first trailer suggests there’s plenty of sex, secrets, and spies to keep things interesting. And if that’s not enough, well, there is a war going on in the background.

The series was created by Sam Shaw (who’s written for Showtime’s hit Masters of Sex) and directed by Thomas Schlamme (of The West Wing, among other Aaron Sorkin projects). The drama definitely has has potential – but only time will tell whether this is a hit or a miss for the summer television market.
