We may be crawling out of the pandemic in the U.S., but streamers have shelled out major bucks to own what were going to be big blockbusters. The next film in that vein is Amazon’s upcoming The Tomorrow War starring Chris Pratt, which just released its first teaser trailer and first-look images. The sci-fi action film teaser doesn’t feature all that much content, but the film’s concept is pretty cool.
Pratt plays school teacher and family man Dan Forester, who is sucked into a futuristic war when time travelers from humanity’s future appear and claim that they need soldiers to fight a war against a bunch of aliens. Dan will eventually partner with a brilliant scientist (Yvonne Strahovski) and his estranged father (J.K. Simmons) in hopes to finally end the war of their future. The logic of that plan doesn’t quite make sense, but time travel often doesn’t and it’s a pretty unique concept at the very least, something sorely lacking from blockbuster films. ThisĀ The Tomorrow War teaser trailer itself doesn’t really do much to inspire, delivering a pretty rote presentation, but hopefully, the full trailer will make the film stand out a bit more.
The movie was originally made with theaters in mind, but Paramount sold it off this past February in a massive $200 million deal. The streamer has been aggressive in grabbing major films that were meant for theaters, including the recently released Coming 2 America and the upcomingĀ Without Remorse. Sales like this will probably begin to slow down as the pandemic eases, but as long as streamers are willing to shell out the cash, it probably won’t stop as studios and investors see another avenue to make cash.
The Tomorrow War will land on Amazon Prime on July 2.
