The Umbrella Academy is getting a season 3 at Netflix. The streaming giant confirmed the news on Twitter, simply saying, “They’re not done yet!” As of right now, there is no release window for the show’s next episodes, and considering season 2 premiered only a few months back, we likely won’t see the series return for quite some time. The Umbrella Academy is now on a shortlist of Netflix shows that managed to make it to season 3. Aside from the general increased expenses that come with a series progressing through seasons, history shows that Netflix has to be seriously convinced there is enough viewer interest to pour more resources into existing programs. In other words, it sounds like the superhero show has done quite well for itself thus far.
The series made its Netflix debut early last year and is an adaptation of a comic book series of the same name created by My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way. The show follows a family of strange superheroes, featuring talent such as Ellen Page, Tom Hopper, Mary J. Blige, Kate Walsh, and others that help make up its star-studded cast. After the show found success in 2019, the cast and crew returned for a higher-stakes season 2 in July.
Hopper will be busy for the foreseeable future, as it was recently revealed that the actor is part of the upcoming Resident Evil feature-length film.
