Buy Uncharted 3 for the lost cities, stay for the battles in space.
Uncharted 3 has reached the hallowed “gold” status, meaning that it has passed the certification process and now disks can be pressed. Those disks will come with an extra bonus as well: a key to the upcoming Starhawk beta.
Starhawk is the spiritual successor to 2007’s Warhawk and mixes sci-fi elements with Wild West imagery. Like Warhawk, it allows players to pilot a number of different vehicles, from space-age buggies, to high-tech fighter craft. There’s also an interesting looking single player mode, where a grizzled gun-for-hire has to fight “The Outlaw,” to save the town of White Sand. Adding further complication is the fact that the protagonist and the Outlaw are related. Presumably the beta, which is scheduled to start at some point in early 2012, will only cover the multiplayer portion though, and players will have to wait to try out the single player.
Also included on the Uncharted 3 disc will be a behind the scenes look at the game’s development. There’s not a lot of details on what to expect from this content, but supposedly it will be similar to the videos included with Resistance 3.
Using beta access as an incentive to buy a game is nothing new in console games, although usually publishers include keys for more established series in new IPs. This is pretty much the reverse of the usual situation, but it could still prove very successful.
Uncharted 3 comes out for PS3 on November 1st.
