Undead Labs, the State of Decay developer, announced in a blog post that it will be opening a new studio in New Orleans. Along with this, the new studio will be partnered with a broad-discipline game development academy. The announcement further stated: “With the support of Xbox and Microsoft, [studio head and founder Jeff Strain] is going to continue in his role as studio head at Undead Labs while also building opportunities to bring in people who might not otherwise consider a career in the game industry.”

Undead Labs didn’t share any specifics regarding what exactly the new studio will be working on but promised to share more information in the future.

Meanwhile, Compulsion Games isn’t opening up a new studio, but the team responsible for We Happy Few is working on creating “a new universe.” While talking with USGamer, studio founder Guillame Provost spoke about the failures of We Happy Few and how it plans to grow, saying that “there’s a hunger in the studio to apply all the knowledge that we’ve acquired to a new universe.” All that is known about this new IP is that work began on the project last month.

Provost also opened up about the studio’s feelings about the future: “Things feel like they’re gonna get a lot easier for us to succeed. If we don’t make something much better than the last game, then something is uber-wrong with my direction for the studio.”

Microsoft recently showed off its towering Xbox Series X at The Game Awards 2019. Fans can expect to see games from both Undead Labs and Compulsion Games on this next-generation console at some point.
