Monster Hunter Rise Is Coming to PC in 2022

Capcom has confirmed that the upcoming Monster Hunter Rise will only be a Nintendo Switch exclusive for a single year, with the plan being to launch it on PC in early 2022.

Game producer Ryozo Tsujimoto and director Yasunori Ichinose revealed the move of Monster Hunter Rise to PC during a recent interview with Fanbyte and also with several other outlets. However, the pair cautioned that the game is “still very much in development,” suggesting that plans could change in the next 12 months.

The revelation does seem slightly at odds with the idea that the game has been developed from the ground up to take advantage of portable hardware, though it is perhaps unsurprising given the popularity of the previous game, Monster Hunter: World, on the platform. On its PC release in August 2018, Monster Hunter: World set a record as the biggest launch for a Japanese game on Steam and the biggest Steam launch of that year to date. Even so, Monster Hunter Rise is a slightly different proposition from its immediate predecessor, appearing to borrow more elements from earlier entries in the series, particularly through a stylized aesthetic.

Rise will launch on Nintendo Switch on March 26 this year, with another game, Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin, set to hit Nintendo’s hybrid a bit later.

Meanwhile, a movie adaptation starring Milla Jovovich launched at the tail of last year, and judging by the critical reception, it was as average as you’d expect from the director behind most of the live-action Resident Evil films.
