Star Wars: The Bad Batch is coming as an animated Disney+ Star Wars: The Clone Wars spinoff. Deadline states the group of clone troopers that prominently featured in the final season of The Clone Wars will return for their own series in 2021.
Those that tuned in to the first four episodes of the animated prequel show’s season 7 will remember the Bad Batch (more formally known as Clone Force 99) as a team of experimental troopers that featured unique abilities. In the spinoff show, we’ll follow the squad as they navigate their way through a post-Clone Wars era. The report went on to say that the group will “take on daring mercenary missions as they struggle to stay afloat and find new purpose.”
Dave Filoni, executive producer on The Mandalorian and director of The Clone Wars, is serving as executive producer on Star Wars: The Bad Batch. Animated Star Wars veterans Athena Portillo (Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels), Brad Rau (Star Wars Rebels, Star Wars Resistance) and Jennifer Corbett (Star Wars Resistance) will also serve as executive producers. Additionally, Rau is supervising director while Corbett is head writer. Meanwhile, Carrie Beck (The Mandalorian, Star Wars Rebels) will help as co-executive producer and Josh Rimes (Star Wars Resistance) will serve as producer.
