Happy Friday, everyone! Let’s dive into one more batch of news before the weekend. People Can Fly’s Outriders launched yesterday but is facing serious server issues today, a copy of Super Mario Bros. sold for $660K, Microsoft will make Xbox Series X mini fridges, and more. Here’s the video game news you might’ve missed on April 2, 2021.
Outriders Servers Are Down Following Launch Day
Outriders, the new co-op shooter by People Can Fly, is having some server issues following its release day. The developer acknowledged the server problems by releasing a statement on Twitter. “We are, unfortunately, fully aware of servers breakdown you are experiencing right now,” the tweet reads. “Our partners at Square Enix are trying to fix it ASAP.” The game launched yesterday and amassed a huge player base on Steam alone, and it evidently has reached many players on other platforms, as well.

Epic Has Added the Stonks Guy to Fortnite
Is nothing sacred anymore? Apparently not, as Epic Games has added the “Stonks guy” meme to Fortnite. The character was made available on April Fools’ Day and costs 1,200 V-bucks to purchase, which you can earn in-game or by spending real cash. Diamond Hanz, as the character is referred to in-game, is only available for a limited time, so be sure to grab him while you can.

A Copy of Super Mario Bros. Has Sold for $660,000
A copy of the original Super Mario Bros. game for NES just sold for $660,000 at auction. This is the most expensive video game collectible ever sold. The reason for its high price is due in part to its rating of 9.6 by WATA, as well as the fact that it was still factory sealed and a part of a limited print run. For context, the price it sold for is nearly double the amount of the next most expensive collectible — the Nintendo Play Station, which sold for $360,000.

Microsoft Will Produce Series X Mini Fridges After Xbox Wins Twitter Poll
Microsoft will manufacture Xbox Series X mini fridges, thanks to winning a recent Twitter poll voted on by the fans. What a time to be alive. The poll was for a Best of Tweets Brand, and the final two came down to Xbox and Skittles. Xbox narrowly took the victory, earning 50.5% of votes, and because of this, Microsoft will “move forward” on its promise to make Xbox Series X mini fridges, as announced by Aaron Greenberg. It’s unclear when they’ll be available to purchase, but we’re hoping it’s soon.
Thanks to everyone who voted, this was down to the wire and thrilling to follow. Now that @Xbox won, we will move forward on our promise to make those Xbox Series X Mini Fridges. First one off the line will be filled with games & headed to our friends @Skittles of course! šš https://t.co/xeeN8yLGV8
