Wasteland 3: Cult of the Holy Detonation DLC Arrives this October

Developer inXile Entertainment has revealed with a trailer that Wasteland 3‘s second and final story DLC, Cult of Holy Detonation, will release on October 5, 2021 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. The expansion was shown off as part of Microsoft’s Gamescom 2021 presentation. In Wasteland 3: Cult of the Holy Detonation, players venture inside Cheyenne Mountain, where they’ll explore a story filled with new, probably disgusting characters. See the mutated cultists of Wasteland 3 in the teaser footage below.

InXile offered up a story synopsis for the Wasteland 3: Cult of the Holy Detonation DLC that spells trouble for all who are interested in what’s up with the game’s radiation-hungry group:

Deep within the Cheyenne Mountain military complex, mutant cults worship an ancient deity they call the Holy Detonation—a nuclear explosion held in stasis. Whether god, science experiment, or accidental miracle, the Detonation’s energy could power Colorado Springs for hundreds of years, or level it in an instant. The warring cults have differing opinions on who should be allowed to honor their god, and you’re going to have to muscle your way to the altar.

David Rogers, game director at inXile, spoke during the Gamescom event to describe how the studio has built Wasteland 3 to be a better game over time. Along with describing Cult of the Holy Detonation as a dungeon crawler-style expansion, he explained that the pack will include some of the game’s most unique bosses:

“We took the best parts of Wasteland combat and breathe new life into it with objective-based combat – which are basically super rad boss battles. You’re no longer huddling in a corner, throwing down turrets, just going on murderous rampages. It’s not about killing; it’s about getting the job done. So, now, combat doesn’t end until the mission is over. We send you on proper combat missions. You’re in there breaking into prisons, rescuing POWs. You’re destructing these high-tech cultists rituals. You’re splitting your fireteam and coordinating like you never have had to before.”

When Wasteland 3: Cult of the Holy Detonation launches for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox One this October, it will be purchasable for $6.99. Alternatively, players have the option to purchase the Wasteland 3: Colorado Collection, which includes Cult of the Holy Detonation as well as the previous DLC for $59.99. The DLC will also be available to Xbox Game Pass subscribers on console and PC.
