Wonderful 101 Gameplay Footage Arrives Fresh From Japan

This article is over 11 years old and may contain outdated information

Two-plus minutes of new gameplay footage from Platinum Games’ upcoming superhero title The Wonderful 101 has appeared, and it’s as bombastic as you’d hope.

The Wonderful 101 is an upcoming, squad-based superhero title slated as an exclusive release for Nintendo’s Wii U console. That’s a neat premise by itself, but the reason why this title is so exciting is because it’s being developed by Platinum Games, the people behind the phenomenal Bayonetta and the largely underappreciated Anarchy Reigns. Those games both featured crazy, over-the-top action of the sort that’s made Platinum Games such a critical darling, and The Wonderful 101 appears to continue this trend.

Don’t believe me? That’s fine. You don’t have to take my word for it. Instead, hit “play” on that clip embedded above. The nearly two-and-a-half-minute trailer mostly focuses on the game’s impressive action set pieces, so while the text in Japanese, you can still appreciate the footage so long as you speak the international language of awesome explosions and superheroic face punches.

The Wonderful 101 is currently scheduled to make its North American debut on September 15, 2013. As you can probably tell, this is something I’m personally excited about, so don’t be surprised to see these pages filled with random, miscellaneous info on this game until the moment its disc is spinning up in my Wii U. That’s just how I deal with extended wait times.
