The deck building, cooperative base defense game from Cool Mini Or Not puts you in charge of a mining base under attack by horrific aliens.

CoolMiniOrNot launched a Kickstarter campaign June 5 for its latest tabletop game, XenoShyft Onslaught. In just one day, the campaign has raised more than twice its goal, with over $55,000 pledged by 1,178 backers. XenoShyft Onslaught is a cooperative game for one to four players. Players must defend their base against waves of terrifying aliens, using a deck-building mechanic to build their defenses and fight off the attacking horrors. To win, players must survive nine rounds of bombardment by the aliens, who were awoken by the player’s strip mining activities. The Kickstarter campaign runs for just two weeks, ending on June 18.

“With XenoShyft Cool Mini Or Not wanted to create a deck-building style game that tasks players with working together rather than defeating one another,” states Cool Mini Or Not on the Kickstarter project page. “This goal lead to the development of an outstandingly brutal card-based game that played more like a tower defense game then your standard deck builder. Furthermore this focus made the game not only a great cooperative experience, but also allows Xenoshyft Onslaught to function as a single player game.”

Cool Mini Or Not is known for manufacturing detailed miniatures and publishing board games that feature miniatures like Zombicicde and Rivet Wars. XenoShyft Onslaught is a departure from this, with a focus instead on producing the beautiful and haunting artwork of the games’ cards. The campaign has already unlocked several stretch goals, including sculpted plastic markers for health and abilities, and additional Hive Boss card for added difficulty.

The Kickstarter for XenoShyft Onslaught is Cool Mini or Not’s eleventh campaign. The company’s ten previous campaigns have all been successful, funding games like Zombicide, Wrath of Kings, and Arcadia Quest. All ten previous campaigns have met or exceeded their funding goals and Cool Mini or Not has shipped or is in the process of shipping the final products from those campaigns. Estimated delivery for XenoShyft Onslaught is November 2014.
